Substance

Substance

Substance. What is your substance? What do you survive off of? What feeds your heart daily? My best days are when I’m nourished properly. I'm not referring to food and water, but I am speaking about what my eyes and ears feast on daily and what my heart has to offer.

I've often felt a sense of emptiness on days where my only substance consists of social networks, Netflix and school. I have nothing of value to offer. My words run thin and their reach is limited. My eyes grow weary and my vision is blurred. My steps aren't guided and I tend to stray. Yet when my first substance is God and His word my words find meaning. My vision is sharpened and my steps are guided.

He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 8:3

But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Deuteronomy 4:29

What are you consuming? By no means am I saying that social networks, school or anything else that isn't God realted bad, but it cannot sustain you. It cannot provide endurance. My emptiest days are those where I've made no effort to search for God. I've made not attempts to knock on his door. Yet my happiest days are filled with His being. They are drenched in His love and lost in His grace.

Let the first thing you consume in the morning be his word and the last thing you feel be His presence. You cannot live on yesterday’s bread nor can you survive without proper nourishment. He sustains you. He keeps you. He is everything.

You are His!
